“Oy! You hold ya horses now.” She shouted at the driver while standing in the doorway to the bus. I ran, half asleep, dropping my half-eaten packet of chocolate digestives. I didn’t care. I grabbed a seat and promptly tried to get back into that napping phase like a lazy alligator.

“Simpletons. Every one of em.” I could hear her muttering under her breath. She sat three rows behind me on the last bus for the night. I had nearly missed it, having dozed off on the bench while waiting. It was twenty-three minutes late. How do you arrive twenty-three minutes late in the middle of the night, with zero traffic? I straightened my coat, dusting off the last few crumbs of the tea biscuit. The other only occupant on the bus kept prattling on.
